This article is Instructors/TAs who would like to use assessment categories to organize their Gradebook.

# **Overview**

In Ultra courses, every assessment (and column) is assigned to a “Category.”

- Courses come with standard assessment categories including: Test, Assignment, Discussion, Journal, etc.
- When a new assessment is created, the corresponding category is assigned to it by default (i.e., new assignments are assigned to the 'Assignment' category).
- Instructors can change the category of an assessment/column to a different category.
- Custom categories can be created, allowing instructors to label and categorize assessments in better alignment with their syllabus.

Organizing assessments into Categories is helpful for Gradebook navigation and calculation.
