This article is for instructors who want to upload their offline Gradebook back into HuskyCT

> ⚠️ **In order to upload a correctly formatted file, download the Gradebook first**, using these instructions:

# **Step 1: Prepare a CSV file for upload**

In order to upload grades using a CSV file, there are steps to prepare it.

1. To upload CSV data successfully, the CSV file must contain the following:
 1. A column titled **Username** containing student NetIDs. This must be the first column in the CSV file.
 2. A column containing the exact Grade Center **Column Name** and **Column ID**, using the following format: *column name|column. (Make sure there are no spaces between the column name, the vertical slash, and the column ID.)* By following the next step, you will not need to do any formatting manually.
2. A CSV file containing these exact column names and formats can be easily downloaded. Download the gradebook using these instructions:

# **Step 2: Upload the CSV file to Grade Center**

Once you are ready to upload your Gradebook follow these steps:

1. Navigate to your Ultra course and locate the **Gradebook.**

2. At the top right, click the settings button.
3. In the Upload and download gradebook section, select **Upload gradebook**.
4. Once the sidebar opens, locate the large box that says “Drop your spreadsheet to upload”.
5. You can either click on the box, which will open your downloads/files on either Windows or Mac, or you can just drag and drop your Excel file into the box. **Your file must be either .CSV or .XLS**.
6. Once your file is approved, Ultra will show you the changes you made from version of the Gradebook that is already in HuskyCT. It will default to adding all edits but you can select the changes you want to keep when you upload.
7. Select **Upload **at the bottom of the screen.

# **CSV Uploading Irregularities**

When uploading the CVS to the Grade Center, if the Column name and ID listed in the CSV are not perfectly formatted, you may receive an error when uploading your gradebook. Close the error message and review your CSV file before attempting to upload again.

> ❌ You can only upload Excel files that match the format of the Gradebook. The easiest way to do this is to download the Gradebook, edit the grades from that file, then upload it back to the Gradebook using the steps outlines above.
