This article is for instructors looking to create a test with Respondus 4.0. 

Respondus 4.0 allows instructors to create and edit tests, which can then be uploaded into HuskyCT. Instructors can either use the Respondus 4.0 interface to directly create an edit test questions or import a Word document containing questions.

> ℹ️ This article assumes you have already downloaded and installed Respondus 4.0. If this is your first time using Respondus 4.0, review the instructions for first setup before proceeding.

# Method 1: Creating a new test as a Respondus 4.0 File

## Creating a new Respondus file

1. Launch Respondus 4.0
2. Respondus 4.0 will open to the **Start** page, here click **Create **
3. Enter the name of the file, and description in the **Create New File** Dialog box, and click **OK **
4. A new Respondus file will be created

## Creating Test Questions

Once you have created a new Respondus file, or opened an existing file; you can create test questions directly in the Respondus 4.0 interface.

1. With a Respondus file open, click **Edit **
2. On the **Edit** window, there are a list of question types shown on the left hand menu that correspond to question types found in HuskyCT.
3. Select the desire question type, then fill in the relevant information
4. Click **Add to End of List** or **Insert into List** to add the new question to the list of test questions

## Editing Test Questions

1. On the **Edit** windows, look for the question list located at the bottom of the screen
2. For the question you want to edit, click the small down arrow to the left of the Question Title, then click **Edit **
3. The question will be displayed in the windows above the question list where you edit the question options in the same way you created the question
4. Once you have made any edits click **Save Changes** to preserve the changes or **Cancel Changes** to clear the changes.

## Previewing Individual Questions

1. On the **Edit** window, look for a list of test questions, located in the bottom half of the screen
2. Locate the question you want to preview, and click the small magnifying glass icon to the right of the question number. (Alternative: Click the small drop down arrow to the left of the Question Title, and click **Preview**)
3. A windows will appear showing how the question will render in Internet Explorer

# Method 2: Importing a Word Document into Respondus 4.0

This method is used to create a test from an existing word document containing questions. This allows instructors to insert graphics and other special formatting easier than using the Respondus interface. Instructors can use this sample document as a model of Respondus formatting. 

> ⚠️ The Word document must follow the Respondus formatting convention to import correctly.

1. Launch Respondus 4.0
2. On the **Start** window, click **Import Questions **
3. On the Import Questions dialog box
  1. Click the drop down menu next to **Type of File** and select Microsoft Word 2007 (DOCX)
  2. Click **Browse** next to **File Name**, and select the file to import
  3. Specify the location to import the new questions, either add them to the current document (Requires a Respondus file be open), or create a new document (Required to enter a name)
  4. Click **Preview** to review the questions
4. If the questions appear as expected in the preview, click **Finish**
