Faculty and staff can create Smart Views to break up their Grade Centers into smaller chunks. This allows them to better manage a large number of students.

1. Navigate to the **Full Grade Center** for the course in which you wish to create Smart Views.
2. Click on the **Manage** drop-down.
3. Click **Smart Views.**
4. Select **Create Smart View.**
5. Provide a **Name** for the Smart View (i.e., the number of the lab or discussion section: *Section 001 or 001L or 001D*).
6. Smart-views can be created for a variety of items, including course groups, categories (assignments, tests, journals, etc.)  From **Selection Criteria**, choose which criteria you wish to create the smart-view for
7. For **Select Criteria**, fill out any required information such as selecting the group or users.
8. For **Filter Results, **select which columns from the gradebook are to appear in this smart-view. If you want the entire gradebook for the selected group or user, select **All Columns.**
9. Select **Submit**.
10. Reference steps 7-8 below to add the Smart-view as a “**favorite**”, so that it is quickly accessible.

## Creating a Smart-view for a Child Course

1. Follow steps 1-6 above.
2. For **Selection Criteria**, select **Custom.**
3. Select the drop-down under **User Criteria **and select **Child Course ID**.
4. Set the **Condition** of the filter to Contains, and fill in the **Value** with the specific number for that section.
5. Review what you have selected.
6. Select **Submit.**
7. Check **Add as Favorite** so the smart view is available as a filter option.
8. Navigate back to the **Grade Center** drop-down menu. The newly-created Smart View is now visible and selectable.
