### Section vs. Course

The following will help you identify whether the Class Details panel you are reviewing is for a section or a course. This distinction will be important when using the Plan and Cart features of the Build My Schedule function.

## Adding Courses to your Cart/Plan

In order to build your schedule, you will need to add courses to your **Cart **and/or your **Plan**. Either the Cart or the Plan or a combination of both can be used to generate possible schedules.

> ℹ️ **Primary Cart Syncs with Shopping Cart in Student Admin**
> ℹ️ Please note that the Primary Cart in the Class Search automatically syncs with your Shopping Cart in the Manage Classes tile in Student Admin.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ - **Cart Classes:** Any classes added either to the Primary Cart in Class Search or the Shopping Cart in Student Admin after March 21, 2025 will automatically be added to the other cart**. Alternatively, any classes removed from one cart will automatically be removed from the other cart as well.
> ℹ️ - **Enrolled Classes:** If a student enrolls in a class in Student Admin, that course will automatically populate in the Primary Cart for that term in the Class Search.
> ℹ️ Example: A student enrolls in BIOL 1108 directly in Student Admin for Spring 2025. When that student logs into the Class Search, BIOL 1108 will automatically be populated in the Primary Cart for Spring 2025 with a *You are registered for this section *icon* * .
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You may need to refresh your browser to update each cart when a change is made.

> ❌ ****Sync Requirement**> Macro (anchor)
> ❌
> ❌
> ❌
> ❌ When adding multi-component classes to your cart (i.e., classes with Required Linked Sections or more than one required section, such as LAB/SEM, DIS/LEC, or LAB/DIS/LEC sections), **you must add all required sections to your Primary Cart **in order for the class to sync properly with the Shopping Cart in Student Admin. Multi-component classes will have Required Linked Sections listed in the Class Details panel when a section is selected.
> ❌
> ❌ Example: If you would like to add BIOL 1107 which has both required LEC and LAB sections, you should **add both the LAB section and LEC section to your Primary Cart **to ensure the classes sync properly with your Shopping Cart in Student Admin.

Using the Class Search, identify a class you would like to add to your schedule.

On the Class Details panel, depending on whether you are viewing a section or a course, you will have the option to **Add to Cart** and/or **Add to Plan**.

Before generating schedules, you will have the option to:

#### **Utilize Plan Section Filters**

The **Plan Section Filters **allow you to refine the classes used when generating possible schedules.

<details>

Plan Section Filter Descriptions

| **Filter** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Open Classes Dropdown | This dropdown allows you to determine which classes will be used when generating possible schedules:
- Open Classes *(default)*
- Open or Closed Classes (Waitlist Open)
- Any Classes |
| Respect Excluded Times | Select this option to ensure that the generated schedules respect the excluded times identified in the [Exclude Times Advanced Search](https://kb.uconn.edu/space/SAS/27562344449/Using+the+Class+Search#Advanced-Search-Options) option. Use the **Edit…** option to modify your Excluded Times. |
| Include [Campus] Classes Only | If needed, select one checkbox for the desired campus to ensure only sections at that campus will be considered from the courses selected in the Pick Plan Courses To Add To The Cart section.
Example: If you only want the generated possible schedules to include sections on the Main Campus (Storrs), select the *Include Main Campus (Storrs) Classes Only *checkbox to apply the filter to courses selected from your Plan. This filter will not apply to courses in your Primary Cart.
**Do not select more than one campus filter.** |
</details>

> ℹ️ The Plan Section Filters are distinct from the filter options on the Search Classes panel. Please note that the filter options on the Search Classes panel do not apply to the courses you are using to generate possible schedules.

> ⚠️ **Plan Section Filters apply ONLY to courses selected in the Pick Plan Courses To Add To The Cart section. **These filters will not apply to courses in your Primary Cart.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ Example: If a course in your Primary Cart is at Waterbury but you select *Include Hartford Campus Classes* *Only *in the Plan Section Filters, the schedules generated will include the course in your Primary Cart (Waterbury) and your planned courses (Hartford).

#### **Modify courses in your Primary Cart**

To modify a class in your Primary Cart, select the class in the **Primary Cart Courses** section. The Class Details panel will display. The same options described in [Modifying your Cart](#modifycart) will be available.

> ⚠️ **Reminder:** The Generate Schedules feature will include ALL sections in your Primary Cart when generating possible schedules. Be sure each section added to your Primary Cart should be included in your schedule.

#### **Select courses from the Plan**

In the **Pick Plan Courses To Add To The Cart** section, courses assigned to the term for which you are generating possible schedules will be automatically selected. Select courses not assigned to a term or assigned to other terms manually if you would like them included when generating possible schedules. The schedule generator will consider **all available sections that meet the Plan Section Filters** when generating possible schedules.

Example: If you selected *Include Main Campus (Storrs) Classes Only *in the Plan Section Filters, and you select ANTH 1000 in the Pick Plan Courses To Add To The Cart section, the schedule generator will consider only ANTH 1000 sections on the Storrs Campus when generating possible schedules.

Once you have selected all the desired Plan Section Filters and courses from the Pick Plan Courses To Add To The Cart section, select **Generate Schedules**.
