Gampel has received a physical Wi-Fi upgrade to improve connectivity. This guide provides details about the three networks available in Gampel - UCONN-SECURE, eduroam, and #Free_Husky_Wifi - and provides device recommendations. ## Wi-Fi Networks Three Wi-Fi networks are broadcasted in Gampel Pavilion. In the Wi-Fi settings on your device, you see the networks that your device can connect to*. 1. *UCONN-SECURE* >Connect if you’re a UConn student or employee and can see *UCONN-SECURE* 2. *eduroam* >Connect if you’re an *eduroam *user and can see *eduroam* 3. ***#Free_Husky_WiFi*** >Connect if you’re a game-day guest! >Connect if you’re an active student/employee and cannot see* UCONN-SECURE* >Connect if you’re an *eduroam *user and cannot see *eduroam* Vendors and Points-of-Sales: Please reach out to [techsupport@uconn.edu](mailto:techsupport@uconn.edu) for Wi-Fi information. > ℹ️ ## *Why can my device only see certain Wi-Fi networks in the building? > ℹ️ > ℹ️ UCONN-SECURE and eduroam networks in Gampel Pavilion have been upgraded to the newer “Wi-Fi 6E” technology. #Free_Husky_WiFi supports Wi-Fi 5, 6, and 6E. > ℹ️ > ℹ️ - If you’re in Gampel and your device displays *UCONN-SECURE* and *eduroam* as available Wi-Fi networks, your device supports newer Wi-Fi technology: Wi-Fi 6E. > ℹ️ - Devices that do not support Wi-Fi 6E cannot see Wi-Fi 6E networks. These devices should use #Free_Husky_WiFi > 📝 **I use UCONN-SECURE on campus. Why does my device drop off Wi-Fi in Gampel?** > 📝 UCONN-SECURE is broadcasted in Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 in most UConn buildings. Gampel is an exception; Gample only broadcasts UCONN-SECURE in Wi-Fi 6E. If your device does not support Wi-Fi 6E, it will not be able to reconnect to UCONN-SECURE in Gampel. In this situation, connect to #Free_Husky_WiFi. ## Which devices support Wi-Fi 6E? Wi-Fi 6E uses the 6GHz frequency band (section of the Wi-Fi spectrum) which is much less utilized as it was only opened for use by the FCC in April 2020. Devices that support Wi-Fi 7 also support previous Wi-Fi generations (6E, 6, 5, etc.). - iPhone 15 Pro, all iPhone 16 versions, and [newer](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102285) (excluding iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e, see complete list below) - Google Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, and [newer](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7158570?hl=en#zippy=) - Samsung Galaxy A57, S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, S23 series, and newer - Motorola Edge (2021 and newer), Razr (2022 and newer), Moto G Stylus 2026, and ThinkPhone - Dell Latitude 7430, Dell Pro, and newer - Any laptop with Intel AX211, BExxx, or other Wi-Fi 6E/6GHz capable wireless interfaces - Apple Devices:

## Gampel Employees Students, faculty, and staff who work in Gampel should review this additional information: - If your computer can connect to *UCONN-SECURE*, you are set to continue accessing internet and networked resources as you do in other buildings. No changes are required to your workflow. - If your computer cannot connect to *UCONN-SECURE, *continue reading below: If your computer cannot see *UCONN-SECURE*, you must connect to a wired connection (Ethernet) or use *#Free_Husky_Wi-Fi *to be connected. This *#Free_Husky_Wi-Fi* will grant you access to the internet, including Outlook email, OneDrive and the Microsoft 365 suite. However, if you're on this Wi-Fi and need to access UConn systems that live on campus (are on-prem)*, like shared printers, you will need to use the [UConn VPN](https://uconn.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IKB/pages/10907091023) to access them. *Examples of on-prem services include: shared printers, Q:/ and R:/ Drives, and High Performance Computing (HPC). ## Why did ITS make this change ITS completed this physical infrastructure and configuration upgrade to facilitate a greater number of devices in the building while also providing a faster connection for devices that support newer Wi-Fi technologies. Newer devices that support Wi-Fi 6E use a different frequency band (section of the Wi-Fi spectrum) than older devices. This 6E airspace was opened by the FCC in April 2020 and therefore devices released before this time cannot utilize this airspace. In Gampel, newer devices that support Wi-Fi 6E will use the less congested 6GHz band while older devices will remain in the 5GHz band. Once devices are split between the two distinct frequency bands, every device will see less congestion in their band and can see faster transfer speeds and more consistent connections. > ✅ - Devices that do not support 6E will not see 6E networks and cannot join them. > ✅ - The standard Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 (5GHz) Wi-Fi technologies will remain in the *#Free_Husky_Wi-Fi* network to support older devices. ## Questions or Troubleshooting If your device is having issues connecting to the Wi-Fi in the building, or if you have any questions, please reach out to the [Technology Support Center](https://its.uconn.edu/techsupport/). ## Related Guides > Macro (contentbylabel)
