Subscriber lists are used to indicate who will receive mail from Maestro.  They can be as simple as a list of names and email addresses, or as complex as need be with any number of fields such as name, address, phone number, role, etc.

Subscriber lists can be created from and existing Listserv list that you own, or from scratch via manual entry or data import

### Create from Listserv List

> ℹ️ You must be a list owner to create a subscriber list from your Listserv lists.

1. Sign in to Listserv Maestro at [listserv-maestro.uconn.edu](http://listserv-maestro.uconn.edu)
2. Use the left side menu to click on **Subscriber Lists**
3. Click the drop down arrow at the top left of the page and select **New > Imported Listserv List in New List Group**
  1. You may also create a new list in an existing list group by right clicking on the group you wish to use in the Subscriber Lists page and select **New > Imported Listserv List**
4. Select the Listserv List you would like to hybridize from the drop down
5. If you would like to make any changes to the list's settings, click **Refine Settings**
6. Click **Create Hybrid Subscriber List** and confirm on the pop up dialog box that appears
7. You will be taken to the Subscriber Lists page with your new list prepared

> ⚠️ This conversion is permanent and will link the Listserv List to the Maestro Subscriber List.  Changes to the lists' contents will be synced to each other within as much as 5 minutes.  While configurations to the list can be made from either system, deleting the list must be done from the Maestro side

### Create from scratch

1. Sign in to Listserv Maestro at [listserv-maestro.uconn.edu](http://listserv-maestro.uconn.edu)
2. Use the left side menu to click on **Subscriber Lists**
3. Click the drop down arrow at the top left of the page and select **New > Subscriber List in New List Group**
  1. You may also create a new list in an existing list group by right clicking on the group you wish to use in the Subscriber Lists page and select **New > Subscriber List**
4. Complete the specified fields to create your list
  1. Define a name.  Be descriptive but concise to allow collaborators and potential subscribers to understand the list’s purpose.
    1. Be aware that this name will be publicly visible in your list group’s Subscriber Page, even if said page is disabled.
  2. If terms and conditions need to be specified, select so in the options.  This will prompt a text field to open which will allow you to specify
  3. Advanced setting allow you to specify expected subscriber growth limits
  4. Click **Next**
5. Define the fields that your list will contain.  These will specify what information you will be keeping on your subscribers.
  1. **NAME** and **EMAIL** are provided by default and are mandatory.
    1. A subscriber's actual name can be constucted as a composite field later if you would like to be able to specify fields like first name, last name, or middle initial
  2. Click on **New List Field** and fill out the Name, Data Type and whether or not the data is optional or mandatory
  3. Click **Next**
6. Define with more specifics, if desired, your fields
  1. **Input Controls** adjust how the fields appear when adjusting subscribers.  You can add text descriptions, define how they are shown, and even specify the test displayed to the user when making these subscriber changes
  2. **Subscriber Name Definition** allows you to build a subscriber's from a selection of fields defined prior.  This name can be referenced in mail-merging or in drop-in text when creating mail jobs
  3. **Input Validation** only appears when it is necessary.  It allows you to place requirements on free-form entry fields such as text or number entry.  This can be used to prohibit impossible values
  4. Default Values allow you to specify what the fields contain upon subscriber creation/import if no value exists for that field.  Mandatory fields require a default value.
7. Review your list summary and verify that it meets your needs.  Most all fields can be adjusted later as requirements change and evolve.
8. Click **Finish** to create your list.  You will be returned to the Subscriber Lists page with your new list open.
9. You may add subscribers manually one at a time, or import subscribers in bulk.
