The UConn Knowledge Base is built on Atlassian Confluence, a collaborative documentation platform used across the university to organize and share information. Whether you're documenting a process, writing a how-to guide, or publishing policy information, this article walks you through how to navigate Confluence and create well-structured content in the Knowledge Base.

# Navigating to the Right Space

How to get to Confluence from Refined:

1. From the Knowledge Base home page, click the **Browse Support** category of your choosing.
2. Ensure you are logged in as you must be authenticated to access editing functions.
3. Select the specific article or page you'd like to view or contribute to.
4. Click the **pencil icon** in the upper right corner of the page.

You will be taken directly to that content in Confluence, where you can edit the page, create new content, organize pages, etc.

# The Structure

Confluence organizes content into Spaces and Pages.

A **Space** is a dedicated area for a team, department, or project. Think of it as a folder or a site section.

A **Page** is the individual document within a space. Pages are arranged in a hierarchy (parent pages contain child pages) which helps keep related content together and makes navigation intuitive for users.

Before creating content, it's important to identify which space your article belongs in and where it fits within the existing page hierarchy.

# Creating a New Page

Once you're in the correct space and have identified the right location:

1. Go to the **parent page** under which your new page should appear.
2. Click the **Create** button (a "+" icon at the top of the page or in the sidebar). Alternatively, hover over a parent page in the sidebar and click the **+** icon that appears next to it.
3. A new editor will open. Confluence will automatically set the current page as the parent, confirm this is correct before continuing.
