Welcome to the University of Connecticut! Below is an overview of the essential technology tools available to you. These are the basic services you will need to get started at UConn.

> ✅ See the <u>[ITS Service Catalog](https://services.its.uconn.edu/)</u> for a complete list of services provided by Information Technology Services (ITS).

## 🔐 Digital Identity and Security

<details>
<summary>NetID, Password and Duo</summary>

Your digital identity provides you access to most online services at UConn. The tools available on <u>[netid.uconn.edu](https://netid.uconn.edu/)</u> enable you to manage and protect your identity.

**NetID:** Your unique Network Identifier (NetID) gives you access to most online resources at UConn. Faculty and staff receive an activation message when they first join UConn.

**Password management:** When you <u>[activate your NetID](https://netid.uconn.edu/activate.php)</u>, you will also set a password and recovery options. Return to [http://netid.uconn.edu](http://netid.uconn.edu) at any time to <u>[reset your password](https://netid.uconn.edu/reset_password.php)</u> (if forgotten) or <u>[change it](https://netid.uconn.edu/tools/change_password.php)</u>. :warning: * Never share your UConn credentials with anyone.*

**Display Name:** By default, UConn systems will show your legal name. You can use the <u>[Chosen Name tool](https://netid.uconn.edu/tools/displayname)</u> to modify the name that is shown in some directories, such as <u>[phonebook.uconn.edu](https://phonebook.uconn.edu/)</u>.

**Two-factor authentication (2FA) with Duo:** <u>[2FA](https://kb.uconn.edu/space/IKB/10726900331/Duo+Two-Factor+Authentication)</u> provides your NetID credentials with another layer of protection. After you enter your password, you complete a second step and authenticate on your designated 2FA device. Duo is required to log in to NetID Single Sign On and Microsoft 365.  To turn on Duo 2FA, log into the <u>[2FA Management Portal](https://netid.uconn.edu/management/duo/)</u> with your NetID credentials. Click the button "Opt In to 2FA" to enroll a device and start your 2FA protection.

<summary>Security</summary>

Follow IT best practices to keep your data and your device safe.

**Devices:** Update the operating system and software on your device in order to receive feature updates and the latest security patches. Many university-issued devices are enrolled in a [device management platform](https://uconn.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IKB/pages/27159265391), which ensures compliance with state, federal, and institutional policies.

**Phishing: **Be wary of messages via text, phone, or email from unknown or untrusted sources. Learn [how to protect yourself and your information](https://uconn.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IKB/pages/26446364673).

> ⚠️ If you believe you have received a phishing email, <u>[report it](https://kb.uconn.edu/space/IKB/10730800270)</u>.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ UConn will never ask you for your password in email, text message, phone call, or online form. Accounts, including email accounts, are activated and deactivated through automated processes. You will never be asked to confirm, extend, or maintain your account status.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ If you suspect that you are a victim of a phishing scam or that you have malicious software on your computer, contact the [Technology Support Center](https://techsupport.uconn.edu/) immediately.

> 📝 Institutional data must be stored on UConn-supported infrastructure.

- <u>[Microsoft OneDrive:](https://kb.uconn.edu/space/IKB/10726900385/Microsoft+OneDrive)</u> OneDrive is where faculty, staff, and students should store work-related, private files. These files may be shared with others. If you leave the University, these files will be deleted and others will lose access.
- <u>[Microsoft SharePoint:](https://kb.uconn.edu/space/IKB/26042663096/Microsoft+SharePoint)</u> SharePoint is where faculty, staff, and students should store files that will be managed by a team. If you leave the University, the files are not deleted and your team may continue to access them.
- You may think of your OneDrive as your briefcase; it goes where you go and may become inaccessible to others. On the other hand, SharePoint is a filing cabinet that sits in your office space and is always accessible.
