Up until mid-March 2024, there was a bug that existed within SPSS 29 preventing it from running on macOS Sonoma. IBM released SPSS 20.0.2.0, which has been identified as a resolution for this issue. If you are running a previous version of SPSS, you may need to follow these instructions to ensure that it works correctly on your machine. ## I already have patched SPSS installed If you previously applied a fix to SPSS to make it work, you may need to fully uninstall it from your computer. If you need assistance with uninstalling the old version, please see these instructions from IBM: [How to uninstall IBM SPSS Statistics on Mac](https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-uninstall-ibm-spss-statistics-mac) Once uninstalled, restart your computer and then install the newest version from the [UConn Software website](https://software.uconn.edu/software/spss/). You may be prompted to select a default server after installation. You can hit **OK **and proceed to the setup and activation of SPSS. ## I have SPSS installed but never patched it Your SPSS installation may automatically upgrade to the newest version. If it does not automatically upgrade to 29.0.2.0, you will need to manually install the newest version. Close out of SPSS and then install the newest version from the [UConn Software website](https://software.uconn.edu/software/spss/). This will overwrite your current installation. You may be prompted to select a default server after installation. You can hit **OK **and proceed to the setup and activation of SPSS. ## I have not installed SPSS yet Install the newest version from the [UConn Software website](https://software.uconn.edu/software/spss/). Legacy patching instructions Follow these instructions only if you are running versions 29.0.0.0 through 29.0.1.1. Most users should follow the above instructions to upgrade directly to the newest version. Versions 28 and older will not be fixed with this patch. > 📝 This fix is only necessary on Mac computers running the software installed directly on the computer. If you are using SPSS through the UConn Anyware virtual desktop, you do not need to apply this fix. ## Installing the interim fix 1. Identify the exact version of SPSS you are running by navigating within SPSS to **SPSS Statistics → About SPSS Statistics → Release/Build information**. An example release number is “25.0.0.2”. 2. Download the interim fix for your specific version of SPSS. 1.
