When sharing an item (file or folder) with others with SharePoint, you have the option to set an expiration date on the link to the shared item. After the expiration date, those with the link with will no longer have access.

> ✅ In order to have an expiration date on the share, you need to use the **Share link** option and have visibility set to **Anyone**.  Since *anyone* can access the link, you may want to set a password for the share.

## Finding the desired item - Windows

1. Log in to your computer. From your desktop, open **File Explorer** by clicking the icon, using the keyboard shortcut (Windows Key + E), or searching for it in the Start menu.
2. Click on **University of Connecticut** in the left column.
3. Navigate to the item that you want to stop sharing.
4. Right click on the item and look at the **OneDrive **options. Click on **Share**.
5. Continue below under the macOS instructions.

## Finding the desired item - macOS

1. Log in to your computer. From your desktop, open Finder by clicking on the icon or by pressing Command + Spacebar on your keyboard and searching for **Finder**.
2. Click on **OneDrive - Shared Libraries - University of Connecticut **in the left column.
3. Navigate to the item that you want to stop sharing.
4. Right click, or two-finger click, on the item and look at the **OneDrive **options. Click on **Share**.

## Setting an expiration date for the Share

1. In the popup window, click on **People you specify can edit**
2. Choose **Anyone**.
3. Click on the date field to set the date of expiration.
  

> ✅ Since the share is set to **Anyone**, you may want to set a password for the share.

1. Navigate to [s.uconn.edu/sharepoint](http://s.uconn.edu/sharepoint) and sign in with your <u>UConn email address</u> and <u>NetID password</u>.
2. Click on your SharePoint site. Click on **Documents**. Locate the item you would like to share.
3. Click on the **Share** icon next to the file/folder.
