Your UConn LastPass account is available to you as long as you are at the University; when you leave, you will lose access to your UConn LastPass account and its premium benefits after 30 days. This article provides suggestions on how to manage the transition.

> ℹ️ ### Types of accounts discussed in this article
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ - UConn LastPass accounts: Accounts that use your *firstname.lastname*@uconn.edu email address as the username for the account. These accounts are created using the [LastPass Opt-in Form](https://netid.uconn.edu/management/lastpass_optin.php) and are managed by the University.
> ℹ️ - Personal / Non-UConn accounts: Accounts that use a non-UConn email address as the username for the account. These accounts are created through [LastPass.com](http://LastPass.com) and have no affiliation with the University.

### Access to UConn LastPass

UConn LastPass accounts will be disabled 30 days after leaving the University, and you will be unable to log in with your UConn credentials. Here’s what you can do:

- Take steps before you lose access. Create a personal account and export your passwords for non-UConn accounts to it.

### Create a personal LastPass account

You may create a free personal account directly with LastPass for your personal passwords (i.e., those you use for non-UConn accounts). As part of our agreement with LastPass, UConn LastPass accounts have access to Families as a Benefit. This benefit allows faculty, staff, and students to use their UConn LastPass account to grant up to five other people access to LastPass premium. These can be used for friends, family, or a personal account owned by you. These accounts are not controlled by UConn and will remain accessible to users after the main UConn LastPass account is disabled by the University.

Therefore, you can activate Families as a Benefit on your UConn LastPass account and grant your personal account the LastPass premium benefit. When you leave, your personal account will be converted to a free account (you’ll lose the premium benefits), but you won’t lose access to your vault.

Basic Workflow:

1. Log in to your UConn LastPass account.
2. Navigate to **Account Benefits > Activate LastPass Families for free.**
3. Enter the email address for the personal LastPass account.
4. This personal account will now receive the benefits of LastPass premium until your UConn LastPass account is disabled when you leave UConn.

### Exporting passwords from LastPass

LastPass allows you to easily export all of your passwords and transfer them to another LastPass account (or a different password management service).
