## Get Thunderbird

You can obtain a [free download of Thunderbird](https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/) from the Mozilla website. Follow the instructions on the site for installing Thunderbird. These instructions require Thunderbird version 78 or later.

## Set up a new Thunderbird account

After installing Thunderbird you need to configure it for use with your @uconn mailbox.

1. Launch Thunderbird and choose to create a new Email account.
2. Enter your name as you want it to appear in the From field in outgoing mail and your email address. Then, click Continue.
3. Thunderbird will automatically configure your account settings. This will work however if it doesn’t work you can click configure manually and ensure if the following information is correct. Enter the following settings:
  1. Incoming:
    1. Server hostname: [outlook.office365.com](http://outlook.office365.com)
    2. Port: 993
    3. SSL: SSL/TLS
    4. Authentication: Oauth2
  2. Outgoing:
    1. Server hostname: [smtp.office365.com](http://smtp.office365.com)
    2. Port: 587
    3. SSL: START TLS
    4. Authentication: Oauth2Username (Incoming and Outgoing): your UConn Email address
4. Note:  If you do not have OAuth2 as an authentication choice you can click the Re-test button after filling in the server information.
5. Click **Done. **The Thunderbird main window displays.
6. You should be prompted to complete the duo two-factor authentication process.
