To connect to both EMS Campus (Campus-Wide) and EMS Enterprise (Student Union Events) you will need to install both client versions on your machine using the instructions below.  If do not already have one version of EMS Desktop installed, please do so using instructions found under the KB article listed here:

With one version of the EMS Desktop Client installed, in this example EMS Campus (Campus-Wide) is currently installed, first copy the content of the “EMS2016” folder to another location. The exact folder path will vary with each user and will be based on the username (usually your NetID) that you use to log in to Windows.

To access the folder, copy the following path:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\EMS2016

Next, click Start, then Run, and paste the content of the text in the Run dialog box and hit Enter. The “%USERNAME%” in the path will resolve to your login name, so there is no need to replace it.

The “EMS2016” application folder should open.

Next, press the “up directory” arrow or the “> Roaming >” text to move backwards one level in the folder structure.  When moving up one level of the folder structure, several folders should be shown. One of these should be the “EMS2016” folder.  Once this occurs, minimize the explorer window, or move it off to the side. This will be need later.

Once this is done, pick a location to store a copy of the EMS Desktop Clients' installations. In this example, this is a folder called “EMS Clients” is created on the Desktop.  This folder may be created anywhere you would find easy to access and can be named anything you like.

When the “EMS Clients” folder is created, switch back to the folder window that contains the “EMS2016” folder.  Select and **Copy** the “EMS2016” folder.  Make sure not to *Move* or *Cut* the folder as we need to leave the original “EMS2016” folder where it is being copied from.

Next, switch to the “EMS Clients” folder window, and paste the content of the folder.  When done you should see a copy of the “EMS2016” folder in the “EMS Clients” folder.

*Note: Because it is not possible to stop the EMS Desktop Client update download process, the original “EMS2016” folder is expected by the application to exist in the profile path for the EMS Desktop client to download an updated version to.*

When finished copying the folder, rename it to something describing the version of the desktop client contained in the folder.  In this example, the desktop client that was previously installed was the Campus-Wide EMS Cloud Desktop, so the folder was renamed to “EMS2016 EMS Cloud Desktop”.  The name can be anything you want, but it should be descriptive as to which version of EMS is contained in the folder. You will need to access this folder later.

To launch a version of EMS from within this folder, first open the recently renamed “EMS 2016 EMS Desktop Cloud Client” folder.  Next, double click on the “EMS” folder.  When the “EMS” folder opens, scroll down until you see the “EMS.exe” application.

Double click on the “EMS.exe” file to launch the application from within the folder.  The client should launch and may start an update process.  If a dialog box appears stating that a new version of the EMS Desktop client is available, click OK.  

At this point, the content of the “C:\Users\YourNetID\AppData\Roaming\EMS2016” folder will be updated with the latest version of the type of the EMS Desktop client you launched.  Any previous installation at that location will now be overwritten.  If a login dialog box is presented, log in using the credentials you were provided.  After the update process completes and you are logged in, you should be presented the EMS Desktop Client application window.

The version of the EMS Desktop Client can be found in the upper left of the application title.  Alternatively, the application version can also be checked by choosing the Help > About EMS2020 menu option.  If you are at the login dialog box, click the About EMS 2020 link located above the credential fields to get to the same information.

In the About EMS 2020 dialog box, one of two values should be shown in the bottom portion of the dialog box:

**EMS Campus (Campus-Wide)**

Make sure to check the product license address text box and Database fields.  When done, click OK to close the dialog box.  If what is shown matches the version on the EMS Desktop client you are expecting, you can then exit the application.

At this point, you are ready to install another version of the EMS application.  In this example, EMS Enterprise (Student Union Events) Desktop Client will be installed using the steps listed in the EMS Installation KB Article linked at the start of this Article.

After installation of the new version of the EMS Client is complete, repeat the above steps through once more.  This time however, the most recent version of the EMS Client will be prepared.  Additionally, in the “EMS Clients” folder, make sure to give this newly copied version of “EMS2016” a distinct name.  In this example, it is named “EMS Enterprise Desktop (SU)”.  Upon completion, the “EMS Clients” folder should look like this:

At this point it would be a good idea to verify that the installed EMS Desktop Client version matches the version that you are expecting.  Do this by opening the folder you just renamed, then clicking on the “EMS” folder within, then double clicking on the “EMS.exe” application.

To switch between the two clients you would need to navigate to the appropriate folder client folder, then click on the “EMS” folder within, then double click on the “EMS.exe” executable file.  To make the process faster, it is recommended to make a shortcut to both “EMS.exe” files, and store then somewhere on your desktop.  Make sure to rename them so that you know what version EMS that you are launching.

Additionally, if there is an existing EMS shortcut that already exists on the desktop, you may want to remove this as it likely links to proper EMS Desktop Client install location based on your profile path, and would launch the client that most recently updated.  This also true for any EMS icons pinned to the Start Menu or Task Bar.
