This article will show you how to upgrade your Mac to the latest available version of macOS. 

## Macs Running macOS Sierra or High Sierra

1. Open the Mac **App Store **which can be found in the **Applications **folder.
2. Go to the **Updates **tab at the top of the window.
3. Press the **Update **button and follow <span style="color: #333333">the </span>instructions on the screen.

## Macs Running macOS Mojave and Later

1. <span style="color: #333333">Choose </span><span style="color: #333333">**System Preferences**</span><span style="color: #333333"> from the Apple Menu (apple icon) in the top left-hand corner of your screen. Then click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Software Update**</span><span style="color: #333333"> to check for updates.</span>
2. <span style="color: #333333">If any updates are available, click the </span><span style="color: #333333">**Upgrade Now**</span><span style="color: #333333"> button to install them or click </span><span style="color: #333333">**More info**</span><span style="color: #333333"> to see details about each update and select specific updates to install. You might be asked to enter your administrator password.</span>
3. When Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, the installed version of macOS and all of its apps will also be up to date. Software that gets updated when you upgrade includes Safari, Music, Photos, Books, Messages, Mail, Calendar, and FaceTime.
4. To automatically install future updates, including those for apps you downloaded from the App Store, select **Automatically keep my Mac up to date**. Your Mac will notify you when updates require it to restart, so you can always choose to install those later.
