## Computers and Peripherals

> ⚠️ ### Data Encryption Requirement
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ The State of Connecticut requires that all data on state-owned computers be encrypted. When purchasing a PC, the device must have a TPM chip and must be encrypted. Older computers and budget models lack a TPM chip and cannot be encrypted. Apple computers do not require a TPM chip but must be encrypted.

### Operating System and Software

- *Windows computers*: In order to be managed properly, Windows computers purchased must be running Windows 11 Enterprise.
- Standard configurations are necessary to ensure software compatibility and driver support during the 5-year lifecycle of the computer.

### Warranty

- ITS standard is to purchase a minimum of a 3-year warranty on all new computers and tablets.
- Laptop computers are purchased with Dell Accidental Damage Protection / Apple AppleCare+.
- Dell warranties are ProSupport with next-day parts and service.

Printers/Scanners

Whenever possible, printers should be centralized (connected to the network) and leased through [Connecticut Business Systems](https://uprint.ubs.uconn.edu/). Leased printers include toner and maintenance. When factoring in the lifetime cost of a printer, it is less expensive to lease a printer.

## Audio/Visual Equipment and Design Standards

The Audio Visual Group has developed these standards over time for reliability, manageability, and ADA compliance standards. Following these standards keeps equipment secure and up to date. It also allows for remote assistance and troubleshooting systems. Request an [AV consultation](https://ait.uconn.edu/avconsultation/) for your project.
