Students, faculty, and staff can use the information below as a quick reference for questions commonly asked about Filelocker. 

## Background

<summary>What is Filelocker? </summary>

Filelocker<span style="color: #333333"> is a temporary storage system for securely sharing and managing files. It is available to all UConn faculty, staff, and students. Filelocker is a web-based application that may be used on any Windows, Macintosh, or Linux computer using a modern web browser.</span>

<summary>How does Filelocker secure files from unwanted access? </summary>

<span style="color: #333333">To protect and secure files, Filelocker employs encryptions, passwords, and virus scans on file downloads and uploads.</span>

<summary>Who can use Filelocker?</summary>

<span style="color: #333333">Files are typically shared with individuals that have Filelocker access (i.e., anyone with a UConn NetID), but Filelocker also allows sharing with individuals without access.</span>

<details>
<summary>What is my file size quota?</summary>

<span style="color: #333333">The default file size quota is 2GB, meaning that you can keep up to 2GB of your uploaded files on Filelocker. You can request more from the </span><span style="color: #333333">[Technology Support Center](https://techsupport.uconn.edu/)</span><span style="color: #333333"> if needed. </span>You can see how much space you have used by hovering over **User Quota** near the top of your Filelocker page, as shown in the image below.

## Sharing Content

<summary>How do I share my files with individuals that have Filelocker access?</summary>

<span style="color: #333333">To share files with others, u</span>pload<span style="color: #333333"> your files and select a u</span>ser<span style="color: #333333"> or a g</span>roup of users<span style="color: #333333">. Before you can share files with a group, you must first add the g</span>roup<span style="color: #333333">. The user or group of users will be notified by email when you select them and complete the procedure.</span>
