Students, faculty, and staff can securely request files with Filelocker.

> ℹ️ Use the file request<span style="color: #333333"> feature when you need to access a file from someone who does not have a Filelocker account by using the person’s email address. For upload requests, files must be uploaded by someone who has a NetID. Only then can the upload be sent to individuals who do not have a NetID.</span>

1. [Log in to](http://filelocker.uconn.edu/) Filelocker with your NetID and password.
2. From the **My Files** screen, under the "Need a file from someone?"** **heading, click **Request Upload**.
3. The Request Upload to Filelocker** **window will appear. Complete the following:
  1. Enter an expiration date (i.e., the last date on which a recipient(s) can view the file) for the file in the **Request expiration date **field.
    :warning: Note: Use the format mm/dd/yyyy for the expiration date. If you do not have a specific date in mind, you can use the expiration date that automatically populates the field.
  2. Enter the email addresses of any individuals you wish to notify about the upload request in the **Send request to email **field.
  3. Enter a message or any relevant notes you wish to include for the request recipient(s) in the **Add message to email **field.   
:warning: Note: Do not use this field to identify passwords for encrypted files. You should communicate password information to your recipients by phone.
  4. Select checkboxes for the following options, as needed.
    1. **Allow multiple uploads (requires password)?**
      - Select this option if you plan to permit recipients to upload more than one requested file.
      - If you leave this checkbox blank, the public share will generate a publicly accessible, single-use URL for uploading the file once. This single-use URL does not require a password.
      - Allowing multiple uploads will require a password.
    2. **CC me with notification?**
      - Select this option if you would like to receive a copy of the request notification.
    3. **Force a virus scan for uploaded files? **
      - Select this option to ensure that the file upload is scanned for viruses.
    4. **E-Mail me when files are uploaded?**
      - Select this option if you would like to receive an email notification once the requested files are uploaded.
    5. **Password protect this public share? **
      - Select this option if you would like to password protect a single-use, publicly-shared URL.
      - Two fields will appear when you check this box.
        - Enter a password in the **Password **field.
        - Enter the password again in the **Password **field.
      - Single-use URLs do not require a password otherwise.
4. Click **Create Request **to generate a request that will be sent to the recipient's inbox. The email they receive will contain a link for uploading the requested files, as well as any messages you added to the request.
