You may record a Webex session without recording any webcam video. This setting must be set before the session begins, and must be changed again if you would like to record video in a future session. This is a useful feature when working with minors or otherwise confidential participants.

## Switching to Audio-Only <u>Before</u> your Session

1. Before the session <span style="color: #172b4d">(Meeting) starts, you need the change the recorder's layout. </span>Navigate to [UConn Webex](http://uconn-cmr.webex.com) and sign in using your NetID
2. Go to **Preferences **in the left-hand menu.
3. Click **Recording.**
4. In **Recording Layout**, choose the last option in each row.
  1. Content-only view
  2. Blank view
5. <span style="color: #172b4d">**Save **</span><span style="color: #172b4d">your recording layout and then press </span><span style="color: #172b4d">**Home**</span><span style="color: #172b4d"> in the top left of the Webex website.</span>
6. <span style="color: #172b4d">Use this website to begin your Meeting to ensure your new settings will be applied. If you do not see your Meeting listed on the Home page, click </span><span style="color: #172b4d">**View all meetings**</span><span style="color: #172b4d"> near the bottom of the page.</span>  
<span style="color: #172b4d">The Desktop App syncs settings (checks for changes) at regular intervals, so it may not be updated at the time you want to begin your session. For this reason, we recommend that you begin the session from the website.</span>

> ❌ Be sure to revert these changes after your session if you would like to record video in your next session.

## Convert a Video into an Audio File

### Extracting Audio on a Windows Computer

1. Download your Recording (or other video).
2. The recommended program for Windows users is GoldWave. With this program, the video does not have to be viewed in order to extract the audio, unlike other programs. [Click here to download GoldWave - Free Version](https://www.goldwave.com/release.php). For this process, you <u>do not need</u> the paid version.
3. Download, install, and open GoldWave. Close the Introduction box if it pops up.
4. Click **File **→ **Open.**

5. Navigate to and open the .mp4 file that you downloaded (your Webex recording).
6. You will now see the waveform of the recording.
7. Click **File **→ **Save As.**
8. Save the file as an appropriate audio file type; .mp3 is recommended.

### Extract Audio on a Mac Computer

1. Download your Recording (or other video).
2. Open **QuickTime** and open the recording.
3. Click on **File **→ **Export **→ **Audio Only...**
4. Give the file a name and choose where to save it.
5. Click **Save**.
