Skype for Business has been replaced by Microsoft Teams. Teams includes the capabilities in Skype for Business and adds new functionality that facilitates collaboration and app integration. ITS plans to transition the University to a Teams-only environment soon. Skype meetings will be converted to Teams meetings and after the transition, messages sent via Skype will be received in Teams. Past Skype conversations will be retained in the Conversation History folder in Outlook. Users have access to Teams and will have the ability to use both services side by side until the transition to Microsoft Teams.

Teams has been deployed to all ITS Managed Workstations. Below are implications of not logging into Teams which can be resolved by [updating to Microsoft Teams](https://uconn.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IKB/pages/10759275591).

## Chat/Instant Messaging

Teams users will be unable to send you instant messages to Skype if you have never logged into Teams before. However, Teams users will still receive messages sent from Skype.

## Audio and Video Calls

You cannot audio or video call users who are on Teams. Users who are on Teams cannot call you on Skype if you are not logged into Teams.

## Sharing Screens

Sharing screens from Skype to Teams or Teams to Skype will not work. Both users should be on the same application to share screens.

## Presence Status

Teams users cannot view the presence (available, busy, away) status of Skype users who have never logged into Teams.

## Document Sharing and Cloud Storage

Live collaboration and document sharing can be done through Teams with your Team members. Skype users will be required to log in to SharePoint Online to access or edit the documents every time.
