Microsoft is retiring Skype for Business and replacing it with Microsoft Teams. Teams includes the same capabilities as Skype for Business, as well as adding new functionality to facilitate collaboration and app integration. ITS plans to transition the university to a Teams-only environment soon. All UConn users have been granted access to Teams and have the ability to use both services side by side until the transition to Microsoft Teams only.

## Accessing Teams

All ITS managed workstations have Teams installed. However, if you cannot find the client installed on your computer, please download the same by following the steps outlined [here](https://uconn.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=ikb&title=Install%20Microsoft%20Teams&linkCreation=true&fromPageId=10799808530).

You can then sign in to Teams with your published email address and NetID's password.

## Working with Teams and Skype for Business Together

When using both services:

- You can start chats in either the Skype for Business or the Microsoft Teams client.
- You will receive chats and calls initiated by other users from Skype for Business in your Skype for Business client.
- You will receive chats and calls initiated by other users from Teams in your Microsoft Teams client.
- You can schedule meetings in either Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business (Both add-ins will be visible in Outlook by default).
- You can join any Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams meeting; the meeting will open in the respective client.

If you choose to use only one service during the transition period, the table below details how it will interact with others.

| Use Case | Initiator Uses Only: | Recipient Uses Only: | Result |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Chat | Teams | Skype for Business | An email is sent to the recipient stating that the sender tried to send a Teams message, with the text of the message and a link to sign in to Teams. *This email will only be sent if the recipient has signed into Teams at least once.* |
| Call | Teams | Skype for Business | An email is sent to the recipient stating that the sender attempted a Teams call. |
| Screenshare | Teams | Skype for Business | Screenshare cannot be initiated unless recipient uses Teams |
| Chat | Skype for Business | Teams | The message is received in Teams. |
| Call | Skype for Business | Teams | Calls cannot be placed. |
| Screenshare | Skype for Business | Teams | The recipient will receive a link to access the Screenshare via Skype for Business Web App. |

> ⚠️ We highly recommend that all Skype for Business users sign in to Microsoft Teams **as soon as possible**. Users who do not sign in to Microsoft Teams at least once risk missing email notifications when someone attempts to reach them in Microsoft Teams,
