This article shows faculty, staff, and students how to use instant message and meeting features in Skype for Business and Teams.

## How to Send a Message

### In Teams

1. Open Microsoft Teams.
2. On the sidebar to the left, click on **Chat**.
3. To find new users, use the search bar at the top of the screen.
4. In the top left, click on **Contacts** to see a list of your contacts from Skype.
5. In order to add new contacts, click on the **ellipsis** next to your contact group, and select **Add a contact to this group**.
6. Search for the name of the contact you are trying to add and add them.

### In Skype

1. Find the search box on your Skype for Business contacts page, just below the **Contacts** tab.
2. Click in the search box and type the group name you want to search.
3. Hover over their picture in the Contacts list and click the > Macro (inline-external-image)

 button on the quick launch bar.
4. Type your message at bottom of the conversation window.
5. Press Enter on your keyboard to send the message. You'll see next to each instant message a picture of the person who sent it. This works for both one-to-one conversations and conferences.

## How to Share Screens

### In Teams

1. Select the **Share** icon in the bottom bar.

2. To share your entire desktop, select your screen under the **Desktop** heading by clicking on it. If you have multiple displays, you will be able to choose which one to share.

3. If you would like to share an individual program instead of your screen, select the desired program from under the **Window** heading.
4. As long as you are sharing, there will be a red outline around what is being shared.
5. You can stop sharing at any point by clicking on the **Stop sharing** icon on the bottom bar.

### In Skype

1. On **desktop **and **web **- Select the
  **screen sharing** button. (screen sharing with Skype for Web is available in the new Microsoft Edge and Chrome)
2. If you're using Skype for Mac on macOS 10.15 (Catalina), Skype requires access to Screen recording in the Mac System Preferences to share your screen during a call. You will either get a Skype notification directing you to **Settings**, or you will need to grant Skype access for Screen Recording in macOS Catalina System Preferences. Please go to **Mac System Preferences** > **Security & Privacy** > **Screen Recording**, and grant access to Skype.
3. On **Android **- Tap the > Macro (inline-external-image)

4. On **iPhone **and **iPad **- Tap the > Macro (inline-external-image)

  **screen sharing** button. In the confirmation window, select **Skype **and then **Start Broadcasting**.

## How to Book a Meeting

### In Teams

1. Open Microsoft Teams.
2. On the sidebar to the left, click on** Calendar.**
3. In the top right corner, click on the purple button that says **+New Meeting**.

4. Please add a title to the **Add title** field, and add the attendees to the **Invite People **field.
5. Finish filling in details such as Start and End time, and then click **Send **to book the meeting.
6. You should receive a confirmation email when this is complete.

### In Skype

1. Open Outlook and go to your calendar.
2. On the **Home** tab, select **New Meeting** .
3. Add online meeting information by selecting **Skype Meeting**.
4. Fill in the meeting information as needed, including meeting attendees. To find a time that works for everyone, select **Scheduling Assistant** on the **Meeting** tab.
5. You can use **Meeting Options** to customize the meeting settings.
6. Select **Send**.
