This article explains how to use the Drive Migration Assistant to copy your files from the personal (P) drive to the cloud-based, OneDrive service.

## Submitting a Migration Request

1. Open a web browser and navigate to [drivemigration.uconn.edu](https://drivemigration.uconn.edu/).
2. Click the blue **Get Started** button on the site's homepage.
3. Log in with your NetID and password if you are prompted.
4. Review the information on the page, and fill out the form.
  1. Only provide a Folder Name if you wish to have your files placed in a subfolder inside your OneDrive.
  2. Type your NetID into the second box to confirm your migration.
5. Click **Confirm.**

## The Migration Process

After submitting a request, you will be shown a series of statuses while it is processed. The Drive Migration Assistant's status page will be updated with information about your request. You will also be notified by email when your migration begins and completes, and you do not need to keep the status page open after we have received your request.

### Request Received

We have successfully received your request to have your files copied. This is the first status of the migration after you submit your request. You will be placed into the queue for migration shortly. You may cancel your migration request if you need to.

### In Queue

Shortly after submitting your request, you will be placed in the queue. You will see a screen notifying you that we have not yet started your migration. Migrations typically start on the hour or half-past. If the system is processing a large number of requests, it may take a little longer. While in the queue, you may cancel your request if you need to.

### In Progress

One of the migration servers has begun to process your request. You will receive an email letting you know your migration has started. You should not make changes to your P: Drive while your migration is in progress, as the latest versions of your files may not be properly copied to OneDrive. While your data is being copied, you will be shown a completion percentage. Please note that this is only an estimate and may slow down or pause based on system load.

### Complete

You will be notified by email when your migration is finished. There are three possible ways migration can finish:

**Complete: **All files were successfully copied to OneDrive with no issues. You can stop using your P: Drive and start working in OneDrive with no further work. You will be shown links to articles on how to access and use files in your OneDrive.

**Partial Migration Failure: **Files that could be copied to OneDrive were successfully copied. Some files on your P: Drive had issues that made them unable to be migrated. You will be shown a report of the files that could not be migrated. You may try to copy them yourself or can contact the ITS Technology Support Center for assistance. This most frequently happens due to uncommon characters in file or folder names, or files being too large to be stored in OneDrive. You will be shown links to articles on how to access and use files in your OneDrive.

**Failure:** We could not move your files. This most commonly happens due to an issue with OneDrive eligibility or configuration. If your migration fails, you should contact the [ITS Technology Support Center](https://techsupport.uconn.edu) for assistance.

## Canceling a Migration Request

After submitting your request, you can click the **Cancel Migration Request** button to stop your migration from happening. You may submit another request in the future. Please note that once your migration has started, it cannot be stopped.

## Requesting a Second Migration

If you need to have your files copied from your P: Drive to your OneDrive again, you must contact the [ITS Technology Support Center](https://techsupport.uconn.edu/) to have your previous migration cleared.
