In order to connect an Internet of Things (IoT) device to the UConn network, you must register your device by providing the device's MAC address. <span style="color: #404040">Every network-connected device has an IP address and a unique MAC address that identifies it on the network.</span>

The MAC address, sometimes referred to as a Physical Address, can be found in the device’s About, System Information, or Network Settings page. A MAC address comprises 12 letters and numbers typically separated with colons or hyphens, such as xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx or xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx.

This article covers how to find the MAC address on devices commonly registered with ITS.

1. Select **Settings** on the home screen.
2. Scroll down to **System.**
3. Select **System Information.**
4. The wired and wireless MAC Addresses are listed at the bottom of the screen.

<summary>Playstation 5</summary>

1. Select **Settings** on the home screen.
2. Scroll down to **Network.**
3. Scroll down to **View Connection Status.**
4. The wired and wireless MAC Addresses will be listed on this screen.

<details>
<summary>Xbox</summary>

1. Press the **Xbox button** on the controller to open the guide.
2. Select** Profile & system** > **Settings** > **General** > **Network settings**.
3. Choose **Advanced Settings.**
4. On the right side of this screen, there are headings for** Wired MAC** and** Wireless MAC** Addresses.

1. <span style="color: #172b4d">Select </span><span style="color: #172b4d">**System Settings**</span><span style="color: #172b4d"> from the home screen.</span>

3. <span style="color: #172b4d">Your System MAC Address should be displayed on this screen. If the System MAC Address is not displayed on this screen, select </span><span style="color: #172b4d">**Internet Settings.**</span>
4. <span style="color: #172b4d">Scroll to the bottom and note the System MAC Address.</span>

## Mobile Devices

<summary>Android Device</summary>

Different Android manufacturers and software versions may vary in how to find the MAC address.

1. Go to **Settings** on the Apps Menu Screen.
2. Select **WiFi**.
3. Select the gear next to the Wi-Fi network you’re trying to connect to.
4. Select **View more. **The MAC address will be displayed.

> ℹ️ By default, Android devices randomize their MAC addresses. This results in a random MAC address specific to each WiFi network. If you set “MAC address type” to “Phone MAC,” the device’s built-in MAC address will be used and shown in the MAC address listing.

Instructions for older Android devices:

1. Go to **Settings **on the Apps Menu Screen.
2. Select **About phone.**
3. Select **Status.**
4. Scroll down and note the Wi-Fi MAC address.

<summary>iOS Device</summary>

1. On the home screen, open** Settings **by finding and tapping the **gear icon**.
2. Tap **Wi-Fi**.
3. Tap the blue :info:* *next to the WiFi network you’re trying to connect to.
4. Find the **Wi-Fi Address **listing at the bottom. This is the MAC Address of the device.

> ℹ️ By default, iOS devices use a “Private Wi-Fi Address”. This is a random MAC address specific to each Wi-Fi network. If you disable Private Wi-Fi Address, the device’s built-in MAC address will be used and shown in the Wi-Fi address listing.

## Computers

<summary>Windows Computer</summary>

1. Press the **Windows key** + **R** to open the Run window.
2. Type **cmd** to open the Command Prompt.
3. type `ipconfig /all` to list all of your network adapters (wired and wireless). Windows lists the MAC address as the **Physical Address**.

> ℹ️ Each network interface (i.e. WiFi, wired Ethernet) has a unique MAC address. Look for the “Wireless LAN Adapter Wi-Fi” for your WiFi MAC address, or the “Ethernet adapter Ethernet” for your wired Ethernet MAC address.

<summary>macOS</summary>

### Finding the Wired MAC Address

1. Click on the Apple Icon in the top left and navigate to **System Settings**.
2. Click **Network.**
3. Go to the Network adapter you wish to find the MAC address for. Your computer will have a different wired and wireless MAC address.
4. Click **Advanced…** in the bottom right.
5. Click **Hardware** and the MAC address will be listed.

## Smart Devices

<details>
<summary>Google Home</summary>

1. Plug in your Google Home.
2. Download and open the **Google Home app** on your phone or tablet.
3. Select your Google Home from the list of nearby devices, and press **Set Up**.
4. Accept the prompt to allow your phone to connect to Google Home.
5. Enter the location of your Google Home, and press **Continue**.
6. The wireless MAC Address will be listed at the bottom right corner of the screen.

<summary>Google Home Mini</summary>

1. Plug in your Google Home Mini.
2. Download and open the **Google Home app** on your phone or tablet.
3. Select your Google Home from the list of nearby devices and press **Set up**.
4. When the setup asks what Wi-Fi name to connect to, press the **3 dots** in the upper right-hand corner. This will display the Mac Address.

<summary>Amazon Echo (Dot, Spot, Plus, Show)</summary>

1. Download the **Amazon Alexa app** to your phone or computer and sign in with your Amazon account.
2. Connect to the network transmitted by the Echo device.
3. The Wireless MAC Address for the Echo will be listed at the bottom of the Echo setup screen in the Alexa app.
</details>

<details>
<summary>Amazon Fire TV</summary>

1. Plug the Amazon Fire TV stick into your TV.
2. If this is your first time using this device, the Wireless MAC Address will be shown on the far-right side of the available networks list.
3. If this device has been used in the past, navigate to **Settings → My Fire TV → About → Network**, and the Wired and Wireless MAC Addresses will be displayed.

<details>
<summary>Apple TV</summary>

1. Plug in your Apple TV and follow the setup until you reach the step to connect to a network.
2. Select **UCONN-GUEST** and attempt to connect. This will fail, which is normal.
3. The Wireless MAC Address will display on the screen.

<details>
<summary>Roku Stick</summary>

Using your Roku remote, access the **Secret Menu**.

1. Press **[Home]** 5 times.
2. Press **[Fast Forward]** 3 times.
3. Press **[Rewind]** 2 times.
4. Your MAC Address will be displayed as a Wireless MAC Address.

## Smart TVs

<summary>Samsung</summary>

To locate your Samsung Smart TV MAC Address, navigate to the Network settings.

1. Press **Menu**.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight **Network.** Then press **ENTER**.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight **Network Settings.** Then press **ENTER**.
4. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight** Wireless.** then press **ENTER**.

<summary>Insignia</summary>

To locate your Insignia Smart TV MAC Address, navigate to the Network settings.

1. Press **ENTER**,** **or press **Menu.**
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight **Network**.** **Then press **ENTER**.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight **Wireless**. Then press **ENTER**.

<summary>Sharp</summary>

To locate your Sharp Smart TV MAC Address, navigate to the Network settings.

1. Press **Menu **on the remote.
2. Press ◀ or ▶ to highlight **Initial Setup**. Then press **Enter**.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to select **Internet Setup**. Then press **Enter**.
4. Press ▲ or ▼ to select **Network Setup**. Then press **Enter**.
5. Press ▲ or ▼ to select **Connection Type**. Then press **Enter**.
6. Press ◀ or ▶ to highlight **Wireless**. Then press **Enter**.
7. Press ▲ or ▼ to select **IP Setup**. Then press **Enter**. The **MAC Address **should be at the bottom of the page.

<details>
<summary>Sony</summary>

To locate your Sony Smart TV MAC address, navigate to the Network settings.

1. Press **Home.**
2. Use the arrow keys to scroll to **Settings**. Then press **Enter**.
3. Use the arrow keys to scroll to **Network Setup**. Then press **Enter**.
4. From the menu, select **Wireless Setup**. Then press **Enter**.
5. Click on **Network Setup - Status**,** **and the **MAC Address** should appear.

<summary>Vizio</summary>

To locate your Vizio Smart TV MAC addresses, navigate to the Network settings.

1. Press **Menu **on the remote.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight the **Network**. Then press** OK**. The **Network Connection **menu will display.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight **Manual Setup**.** **Then press **OK**. The IP Settings menu will display.
4. Scroll to the bottom to find the MAC Addresses.

<details>
<summary>LG</summary>

To locate your LG Smart TV MAC Addresses, navigate to the Network settings.

**TVs Before 2012:**

1. Press the **Home.**
2. Press **Settings.** Then press **Network**.
3. Press **Network Settings. **The MAC Address will be listed after it runs a network test.

**2012 and After:**

1. Press **Settings** on the remote.
2. Choose **Support** (the :question_mark: icon) and then **Product / Service Info**. The MAC Address will be listed in the **Product / Service info **box.
