This article is for faculty, students, and staff seeking information regarding cached modes in Outlook. <span style="color: #172b4d">Students, faculty, and staff can turn on cached mode in different versions of Outlook for Windows. Cached mode works by saving a copy of your mailbox to your computer, which allows for quick access to your data, and can be a quick fix for troubleshooting slow email. </span>

> ⚠️ <span style="color: #333333">Outlook 2011 and 2016 for Mac uses caching by default, and it cannot be enabled or disabled.</span>

## Turning on Cached Mode in Outlook 2013 and 2016 (Windows)

1. Click **File**  >  **Account Settings ** >  **Account Settings **in Outlook.
2. Click the **Exchange** account, and then click **Change**.
3. Under  **Offline Settings**, check **Use Cached Exchange Mode.**
4. Close and restart Outlook.

## Turning on Cached Mode in Outlook 2010 (Windows)

1. In Outlook, click the **File **tab.
2. Click **Account Settings**, and then click **Account Settings**.
3. On the **E-mail **tab, click the **Exchange** account, and then click **Change**.
4. Under **Microsoft Exchange** server, select or clear the  **Use Cached Exchange Mode**  checkbox.
5. Close and restart Microsoft Outlook 2010.
