Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager <span style="color: #222222">(</span>ConfigMgr) <span style="color: #222222">is a </span>systems management <span style="color: #222222">software product developed by </span>Microsoft <span style="color: #222222">for managing large groups of computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. </span>

IT professionals can automatically (preferred) or manually install the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Management Console on a computer running Microsoft Windows.

## Automated Installation via Software Center (Preferred)

Your NetID (for student workers, their NetIDwork or student#### account) must be a member of the Active Directory group *ConfigMgr_DEPLOY_Microsoft_Configuration_Manager_Console*** **for the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console to be available in Software Center.

1. Log onto Windows with your NetID credentials.
  1. For student workers: use your *NetIDwork* or *student####* account credentials.
2. To open **Software Center** from the **Start **menu, type "*Software Center*" in the search bar.
  1. Alternatively,
    1. Click **Start**.
    2. Click **Microsoft Endpoint Manager**.
    3. Select **Software Center**.
3. In **Software Center,** choose **Applications** in the left-hand column.
4. Select **Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console** in the right-hand pane.
5. On the next screen, click **Install.**

## Manual Installation

<span style="color: #172b4d">Your </span><span style="color: #172b4d">**NetIDadmin**</span><span style="color: #172b4d"> account must be a member of the Active Directory group </span>*ConfigMgr_CONSOLE_DSL_Access*<span style="color: #172b4d"> to access the installation media. </span>

1. Map the network location <span style="color: #000000">***\\configmgr_dsl.grove.ad.uconn.edu\console***</span> with your **NetIDadmin account. **
  1. Open **This PC.**
  2. Type "*This PC*" in the **Start **menu's search bar.
  3. Click **Map Network Drive. **

2. Specify a **drive letter.**

3. For** Folder**, enter ***\\configmgr_dsl.grove.ad.uconn.edu\console*****. **
4. Uncheck the** Reconnect at sign-in** box.
5. Check the** Connect using different credentials box. **
6. Click** Finish. **
7. Enter your **NetIDadmin** account and password.
8. Click **OK.**
9. Right-click on **ConsoleSetup.exe. **
10. Select **Run as Administrator. **

11. Click **Run on the security alert. **
12. Click **Yes** on the User Account Control window.
13. Click **Next** in the **Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager** setup wizard.
14. In the **Site Server Name** (FQDN) field, enter ***configmgr_ss.grove.ad.uconn.edu*****. **
15. Click **Next.**
16. Click **Next** for the installation folder.
17. Click **Install. **
18. Ensure **Start the Configuration Manager console after you close the Setup Wizard** is <u>unchecked</u>.
19. Click **Finish.**

## Creating a Desktop Shortcut to Authenticate as a Different User 

<span style="color: #333333">The Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console, by default, automatically authenticates using the credentials that were used to sign on to Windows. If the credentials with access to Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console differ, you will need to authenticate as a different user. </span>

1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop. A menu will appear.
2. Select **New**.
3. Click **Shortcut.**
4. Copy the following path:  
*C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /user:NetIDadmin@UCONN "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.exe"*
5. Paste the line you copied into the **Type the location of the item **field.
6. Click** Next. **
7. Replace ***NetIDadmin***** **(located in the path you copied for **Step** **4**) with the username provisioned access to <span style="color: #333333">Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console.</span>
8. Enter **Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console**<span style="color: #333333"> in the </span>**Type a name for this shortcut **field.
9. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span>**Finish.**

10. Right-click on the new desktop shortcut.
11. Click **Properties.**
12. Select **Change Icon...**

13. <span style="color: #172b4d">**Click**</span>** OK **<span style="color: #172b4d">**on the change icon dialog box. **</span>

14. Copy the following path:  
*%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.exe *
15. Paste the path you copied in the** Look for icons in this file **field.

16. Press** Enter to load the .exe file. **
17. Select the <span style="color: #333333">Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console icon from the </span><span style="color: #333333">**Select an icon from the list below**</span><span style="color: #333333"> field. </span>
18. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**OK.**</span>
19. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Apply.**</span>

20. <span style="color: #333333">Double-click the desktop shortcut to launch</span><span style="color: #333333">** Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Console. **</span>
21. <span style="color: #333333">**When prompted to do so, enter your NetIDadmin password.**</span>

## Pin Application to Taskbar 

> ✅ <span style="color: #172b4d">It is recommended that you pin the </span>Microsoft Endpoint<span style="color: #172b4d"> </span>Configuration Manager Console<span style="color: #172b4d"> to your </span>taskbar** **for quick access.

1. To locate **Configuration Manager Console** in the **Start **menu, enter “Configuration Manager Console” in the search bar. Alternatively,
  1. Navigate to the **Start **menu.
  2. Click on **Microsoft Endpoint Manager**.
  3. Select **Configuration Manager Console. **
2. Right-click on **Configuration Manager Console. **
3. Click **Pin to Taskbar. **
