Before faculty, staff, students can use their NetID, which is required to log in to many University resources, they must first activate it at [netid.uconn.edu](https://netid.uconn.edu/). During the activation process, you set a password and password recovery options (personal email and phone number).

> ✅ You need your **NetID** and an **activation code **to activate your NetID. The activation code was sent to you by email from Information Technology Services (ITS) when a NetID was created for you. The subject line for the message is: “Activate your UConn NetID.”
> ✅ 
> ✅ **UConn applicants:** You were sent the email with your code after you submitted your application. If you participated in the UConn Early College Experience program, you would have received this email when you enrolled in the ECE class. If you do not have the code, visit [https://netid.uconn.edu/activate.php](https://netid.uconn.edu/activate.php) and click the “Resend Activation Code” button. If you do not get the activation email (sometimes school email systems filter this email) the [Technology Support Center](https://techsupport.uconn.edu/) can assist you during business hours.

## How to Activate your NetID

1. Navigate to the[ NetID website](https://netid.uconn.edu/)<span style="color: #333333">. </span>
2. <span style="color: #333333">On the homepage of the NetID website, click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Activate.**</span>  
:warning: If you do not see the option for "Activate" on the homepage, select "log out" in the upper right corner and try again. Then go back to [netid.uconn.edu](http://netid.uconn.edu/), and the bottom options will have changed.
3. <span style="color: #333333">Enter your NetID.</span>
4. <span style="color: #3a3a3a">You were emailed an activation code when you received your NetID. Enter your activation code and select </span><span style="color: #3a3a3a">**Activate**</span><span style="color: #3a3a3a">. </span>  
Note: <span style="color: #3a3a3a">If you do not have the activation code, select “Resend Activation Code” to have the code resent to the email you provided when applying for admission.</span>
5. <span style="color: #3a3a3a">You will be directed to a separate page where you will be prompted to set up a recovery method. This will allow you to reset your password in the future if you forget it. Whichever recovery option you choose, be sure to select </span><span style="color: #3a3a3a">**Save Changes. **</span><span style="color: #3a3a3a">You can add a second recovery option or modify your existing one after the activation process is completed.</span>
6. Once you have set up a password recovery option, follow the prompts to create<span style="color: #3a3a3a"> </span><span style="color: #333333">a password for your NetID.</span>
7. After successfully setting your NetID password, you will be redirected back to the NetID website. The activation process is now complete.

> ℹ️ NetID activation is a once-only, two-step process in which a password recovery option and your NetID password are set. After your NetID has been activated, you will receive an error if you try to use "Activate" again.
