Every device has a unique name, typically matching its serial number or service tag. Providing this information to IT support can help expedite work and identify previous service done on a machine. ITS uses computer names for inventory, management, and other purposes.

> ℹ️ On ITS-managed computers, the device name matches the service tag/serial number. If your computer is serviced by a different IT department, their device naming scheme may be different.
