Faculty, staff, and students should set password recovery options so that they can reset their passwords (create new ones) if they forget them.

> ⚠️ If you do not set up recovery options, a password change may require an in-person visit to Information Technology Services.

## <span style="color: #000000">Setting up NetID password recovery options</span>

1. <span style="color: #333333">Go to the </span><span style="color: #388ac3">[NetID website](http://netid.uconn.edu/)</span><span style="color: #003366">. </span>
2. Login by clicking **Login for more** and entering your NetID and NetID password.
3. On the password recovery tile, click **Configure**.
4. You will be on the Password Recovery Options page where you add alternative contact methods. We recommend that you add both an email address and mobile number, but you will need to do it in two steps.

### <span style="color: #000000">Option 1: Secondary email (preferred)</span>

> ℹ️ If you are a student in high school or at a different university, do not use your email associated with that school. Oftentimes those accounts will be deleted when you separate from the institution and you will no longer be able to use it for recovery.

1. <span style="color: #333333">Enter a personal email address (not @uconn.edu) in the </span><span style="color: #333333">**Secondary Email Address**</span><span style="color: #333333"> field. </span>
2. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Save Changes**</span><span style="color: #333333">.</span>
3. <span style="color: #333333">Log in to the email account you provided. </span>
4. <span style="color: #333333">From your inbox, open the email from</span><span style="color: #003366">** **</span>**netid@uconn.edu**<span style="color: #333333">. This email message will provide a verification code you will need to copy or write down.</span>
5. <span style="color: #333333">Enter the verification code into the field provided on the NetID website. </span>
6. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Submit**</span><span style="color: #333333"> to complete the process. You will be returned to the </span><span style="color: #333333">**Password Recovery**</span><span style="color: #333333"> page if the process was successfully completed.</span>

### <span style="color: #000000">Option 2: Mobile number</span>

1. <span style="color: #333333">Enter your mobile number in the corresponding field.</span>
2. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Save Changes**</span><span style="color: #333333">.</span>
3. <span style="color: #333333">Open the text on your phone to retrieve the verification code.</span>
4. <span style="color: #333333">Back in your browser, enter the verification code into the field provided. </span>
5. <span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Submit**</span><span style="color: #333333"> to complete the process. You will return to the </span><span style="color: #333333">**Password Recovery**</span><span style="color: #333333"> page if the process was completed successfully, and you may close the page.</span>

> ✅ If either your email address or mobile number change, make sure to return to the Password Recovery Options page and update the information saved in the system.
