<span style="color: #000000">Staff can learn about the differences between the tag numbers and asset numbers used in Kuali Financials (KFS).  </span>

## Tag Number 

The Tag Number refers to the UConn number on the asset’s barcode label or decal.  

## Asset Number 

The Asset Number refers to a system-assigned unique identifier for the property record.

Instead of the tag number, Kuali documents use the asset number to identify equipment. Each document has a small grey magnifying glass icon next to it.  

1. Click on the **magnifying glass icon**. You will then be directed to an asset look-up screen.
2. From this screen, enter the **tag number **to obtain the asset number necessary to complete any asset transaction.

:warning: Note: <span style="color: #000000">Any of the fields can be used to search for assets. Tag Number and Asset Description are the most frequently used fields. You can also use an asterisk (</span><span style="color: #000000">*****</span><span style="color: #000000">) as a wild card character as needed.  </span>
